Item upgrades give players the possibility of upgrading equipment that they already have. This can be done by any item upgrader NPC.

Armour

Armour is one of the key things that keeps Link protected from damage in the majority of situations. Although it isn't upgraded like weapons, you can still enhance its defence capabilities in different ways.

Upgrades are a mix of Smithing Stones (a type of stone) and Runes. They are used to improve the power of weapons and improve their effectiveness in comparison to other stats. They can be found from enemies who drop them in the open world, bought from certain vendors or found as drops in combat.

There are two NPCs who can upgrade your weapons: the Blacksmith Hewg in the Roundtable Hold hub area and the Smithing Master Iji in the Road to the Manor hub area. Both of these NPCs accept your Smithing Stones or Runes to upgrade your weapon.

A magical item upgrade can be any item that has special properties or effects. The majority of these items are weapons, but some are also armor, shields and cloaks, potions, rings, scrolls, and other items. Some of these items may be made to speak.

The majority of magic items can be upgraded so that they are equipped with additional capabilities. This makes them more useful for players, or can aid them in overcoming a particularly challenging encounter. A weapon that is infused can provide bonus damage against a particular enemy type, for example. This is especially useful for characters that have reached a level where they will likely face the same type of monster in dungeons over and over again.

An infused ring might confer the ability to resist piercing, bludgeoning, or slashing damage from non-magical attacks (not even silvered ones) until the next time the character takes a lengthy rest. Utility Items

Utility items are equipment which does not fall into the categories of Clothing or Armor and have a variety of capabilities. In contrast to weapons and armor they are not a single utility item that can conflict with another. The majority of utility items come with a passive effect that players can activate while using them. However, some have additional abilities which are activated by pressing a button, or by activating a skill.

The Flashlight is the most commonly used utility item. It illuminates the surrounding area. Other items of utility include the Helicopter Hat and Rocket Boots, which allow the player to be floating in the air while moving and the Jetpack, which allows the player to accelerate in any direction while on the ground. In the Engineering section, you can quickly create a variety of utility items, while others are only available through research projects or experimental projects on the Proving Ground.

In addition to the items available in the normal inventory, players can also unlock some more useful items of utility by buying them from the Atomic Shop and also from seasonal Scoreboard rewards (such as the Shadow Goggles). Some of these items can be upgraded to allow more efficient use.

Most utility items enhance an individual combat ability or give the player a kind of navigation advantage. For example, Sharpening stones created by the Weaponsmith boost Ferocity and Power and Maintenance Oils made by the Huntsman increase Concentration and Healing Power. Other utility items can be used by players to boost Damage or Condition Damage.

All XCOM soldiers can equip a utility item at the beginning of the campaign. Eventually, an additional slot becomes available through the use of certain types armor or completing engineering research or experiments in the Proving Ground. In the Alien Hunters downloadable content, additional slots can be obtained by equipping the Grenade Launcher. This allows the player to make use of an Smoke Grenade or Bomb while an offensive grenade remains in the primary slot.
