World of Warcraft - Item Upgrade

The item upgrade feature allows players to increase the level for equippable weapons or armor. This increases the effectiveness of the equipment, in addition to sometimes adding buffs or rolling an affix again.

It is important to remember that while you can upgrade magic and common equipment, it's generally not worth the effort. Rare and unique gear will quickly outclass modernized magic and common equipment.

Cost

The player must spend gold to upgrade an item. The cost of upgrading an item depends on its current level and the upgrade type selected. Upgrades to weapons are generally cheaper than upgrades to armor, since weapons have lower requirements. The amount of Gold needed increases as an item is upgraded.

The upgraded items will also have improved stats that can improve its performance in various ways. This could include boosting its attack power or critical strike chance. In addition, an upgraded item may be able to provide extra buffs for its equipped unit. These upgrades are able to boost the overall strength of a group or a single unit, and may be a major influence on the gameplay.

The items can be upgraded at any NPC who is an upgrader in the game. Typically NPCs can be found in capital cities or major questing spots. You can also find upgraders of items by visiting dungeons with high-level bosses. You can also talk to NPCs at the garrisons of your faction.

The World of Warcraft item upgrade system lets players upgrade the level of weapons, armor and trinkets. This process is similar to the reforging of gear in Mists of Pandaria or Warlords of Draenor. Some upgrade components have additional cosmetic effects. Upgrade components can be acquired by crafting, buying from vendors or the Trading Post, looting or receiving them as gifts. In addition, players can recover upgraded items using an Upgrade Extractor, or salvaging them with a salvage kit. Glyphs that are positioned on gathering tools are able to be swapped.

A player can turn an item into another upgradeable item by selecting it and pressing the green button a reroll arrow. This will change the layout of the item's window and allow players to select up to six items to "recycle". The item that is recycled will be exchanged for a level 1 item similar to it. Recycled items will not keep their level, or the resources used to upgrade them.

The maximum level of upgrade for an item is determined by the item's tier as well as its quality.
